New York City, July 19, 2025:

Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. held its much-loved Summer BBQ Picnic at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NYC — the same beautiful spot as last year.

This yearly event is something everyone looks forward to. Living and working in a busy city like New York City can be stressful, and this picnic gives people a chance to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and reconnect with their culture and community. It’s also a special time for Gurung families and friends to gather, meet new people, and celebrate their shared traditions.

More than 150 people of all ages joined the event, which kicked off at 11 a.m. There were lots of fun activities like sack races, musical chairs, chelo (a traditional Nepali version of shot put), volleyball, and live Nepali folk dances and songs. Volunteers from the organization worked hard for several days to prepare everything, and their efforts truly paid off. Their teamwork and dedication made the picnic smooth and successful. Their efforts truly deserve heartfelt thanks and appreciation.

Special guests were also invited to the event, including leaders of other Nepali organizations, well-known singers, and respected members of the Nepali community. They were warmly welcomed and honored with a traditional Nepali scarf called 'khada'.

Of course, no picnic is complete without great food! Guests enjoyed a wide variety of traditional Nepali dishes. Breakfast was served first, and the BBQ continued throughout the day. There were also soft drinks, fresh fruits, salads, and homemade sauces. In the evening, a delicious Nepali dinner was served, bringing more joy to everyone. Heartfelt thanks to all who contributed a variety of homemade foods, as well as those who kindly supported the event through their generous donations.

The games and music kept the energy high all day long. Volleyball was a big hit, drawing lots of players and viewers. Traditional Nepali songs and dance music filled the air, and many people took to the dance floor to show off their moves. It was a lively and cheerful scene.

The picnic wrapped up around 8 p.m. Everyone went home happy and proud to be part of such a wonderful day. It was more than just a fun event — it was a reminder of the strong bond that ties the Gurung community together.
