New York City, December 30, 2023 - Tamu Pariwar NY, Inc., a revered non-profit organization representing the Nepalese Gurung community in the heart of New York City, brought the community together for a festive celebration of the Gurung New Year, known as 'Lhochaar,' ("Nxf]%f/" in Gurung/Nepali) at the Tibetan Community Center in NYC.
The annual 'Lhochaar' program is a cherished tradition for the Gurung community, signifying the welcome of the incoming Gurung year and bidding farewell to the passing year. In the Gurung language, 'Lhochaar' translates to 'new year,' and each year is associated with an animal. This year marked the transition from the 'year of the cat' (Xo' Nxf]) to the 'year of the eagle' (d"lk| Nxf]).
Distinguished guests, community members, and leaders gathered at the Tibetan Community Center for an evening filled with cultural richness, solidarity, and celebration. The chief guest for the event was Steven Raga, a prominent figure serving as the New York State Assembly member for the 30th district.
The program commenced with great enthusiasm, and Mr. Raga extended his warm wishes for a Happy Lhochaar and New Year to the Gurung community. In his address, he expressed hopes for continued progress and prosperity within the community and Tamu Pariwar NY, Inc.
Mrs. Manita Gurung, the president of the organization, conveyed her heartfelt wishes for a joyous Lhochaar and expressed gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support. A significant moment during the program was the distribution of 'Certificates of Life Membership' by Mr. Raga to those who enrolled in the life membership of the organization in 2023.

The organization celebrated the 'Tihar' festival with a lively and traditional event known as "Deusi Bhailo" ("b]p;L e}nf]" in Nepali). Originating from Nepal, Deusi Bhailo involves the joyous practice of visiting homes, performing cultural dances, singing traditional songs, and collecting contributions from community members. The funds collected during this event play a crucial role in supporting various community initiatives and ensuring the continued cultural vibrancy of the Gurung community in New York.

The "Feast for Sisters and Daughters," lovingly referred to as "l/+ Rxld s}+" in Nepali, was a heartwarming celebration of Gurung women and their invaluable contributions.
Gurung men came forward with generous donations, emphasizing their commitment to honoring and respecting the Gurung women. The event witnessed a significant turnout, with participants from various walks of life gathering to commemorate the culture that binds them.
The feast was a culinary journey through the traditional flavors of the Gurung heritage. Delectable Gurung dishes graced the tables, satisfying not just appetites but also the soul's longing for familiar tastes. Gurung Culture Shines at Karma Sangpo Gurung's Housewarming
New Hampshire, August 12, 2023 - In a warm and cordial gathering, the housewarming event hosted by life member Karma Sangpo Gurung welcomed representatives from Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. The event not only marked the joyous occasion of Mr. Gurung's new home but also celebrated the vibrant Gurung culture.
At this heartwarming gathering, Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. continued its cherished tradition of promoting and preserving Nepalese Gurung customs, even during housewarming events. A highlight of the evening was the captivating 'Krishna Charitra' dance performance, which enthralled all in attendance.
Mr. Gurung, the gracious host and event organizer, seized the moment to give back to the community. With great joy, he donated a generous sum of US$ 3001 towards the realization of a dream project - a community house - long envisioned by the organization.
Staying true to Gurung tradition, the organization reciprocated the warmth and support by presenting Mr. Gurung with a gift of US$ 600. In a touching gesture, Mr. Gurung, in a spirit of unity and respect, chose to return the gift to the organization.
The event received additional support from kind-hearted donors, including Mr. Chitra Gurung from New York and Mr. Bhuwan Gurung from Boston, who contributed US$ 200 and US$ 100, respectively, to support the cultural exhibition of the mesmerizing Krishna Charitra dance.
In a heartwarming show of unity, attendees collectively raised US$ 750 to contribute to the cause. The total amount collected reached an impressive US$ 4651, which will be duly deposited in the organization's account.
Karma Sangpo Gurung's housewarming event was not only a celebration of a new home but also a testament to the enduring spirit of community, culture, and cooperation. It showcased the power of tradition and togetherness, leaving a lasting memory in the hearts of all who attended.

Summer BBQ Picnic ~ 2023
A Celebration of Community & Culture

Since its establishment, Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc., has been organizing the Summer BBQ Picnic, a much-awaited annual event for the Gurung community. This summer, on July 29, 2023, the beautiful Corona Park served as the perfect location for the event.
The event attracted a large number of picnickers eager to savor a delectable array of food. Heartfelt thanks go out to the dedicated volunteers who generously contributed their time and expertise in serving the mouthwatering dishes especially the BBQ.
The picnic was also enriched with a range of games and sports to cater to all ages. Kids indulged in the excitement of the spoon race, while the adults eagerly participated in the sack race, tug-of-war, and in the very popular Nepali version of shot put, known as "Chhelo." The game of Chhelo proved to be incredibly engaging, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. In a thrilling competition, Mr. Kirti Ghale secured the first position, followed closely by Mr. Akash Gurung and Mr. Bikash GC, who earned the second and the third positions, respectively.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, lively Nepali and Gurung music numbers set the mood for dancing and celebrations. Picnickers immersed themselves in the joyous melodies, creating unforgettable memories of togetherness and cultural bond.
With hearts full of gratitude, the community bids farewell to this year's Summer BBQ Picnic, eagerly anticipating its return next year.

Summer Camping ~ 2023
An Adventure Worth Venturing

Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. has been organizing summer camping event every year. ‘Phoenicia Black Bear Campground’, a very beautiful piece of forested land in Phoenicia, upstate New York was chosen for the getaway adventure from June 16 through June 19 this year. Over 60 campers took part making the camping a spectacular event.
During the stay campers got involved in activities like hiking, fishing, outdoor games, singing, dancing, and even literally watching unfazed wild bears in proximity inside the campground premises. Cooking traditional Nepali foods, and barbequing under the open sky was like never before. The 3 nights stay was an unforgettable sojourn and an opportunity to meet, greet and share one another’s feelings, talents, and brotherhood.
The entire camping venture was successfully carried out with every camper returning home with a happy and satisfied face.

Tamu Pariwar NY, Inc. has always been committed to promoting art and culture. It has recognized and felicitated individuals in the art industry in New York City on numerous occasions.
On the evening of June 13, 2023, an impromptu event was organized in Jackson Heights, New York City to honor Mr. Ram Babu Gurung, a renowned figure in the Nepali film industry. Mr. Gurung is a producer, director, writer, and actor, with several successful movie projects to his credit including Kabaddi, Purano Dhunga, and Saili to name a few.
The event saw the participation of many members and fans from the organization. The president of Tamu Pariwar New York, inc., Mrs. Manita Devi Gurung, felicitated Mr. Ram Babu Gurung for his exceptional contributions to the Nepali movie industry. Prominent attendees shared their thoughts and were vocal about enhancing the art and culture of Nepal. The event was successfully executed and concluded.

We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the Third General Convention ~ 2023 of Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. The convention took place on June 4, 2023 in Jackson Heights, New York City, and witnessed a remarkable turnout of members and well-wishers.
We were honored to have Mr. Chinta Bahadur Ghale, former assembly member of Gandaki Provincial Assembly representing from Manang, Nepal, as our esteemed chief guest at the convention. His presence added a remarkable aura to the event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Chinta Bahadur Ghale for his presence and for sharing his valuable perspectives with all the happy attendees. The event was also graciously attended by the founding president, Mr. Damarjang Gurung, who shared his views, concerns, and suggestions. The event marked an important milestone for our organization as we celebrated our achievements and elected a fresh Executive Committee for the upcoming tenure 2023–2025.
One of the highlights of the convention was the re-election of our current president, Mrs. Manita Devi Gurung, for another 2-year term. The convention also saw the election of new Executive Officers, a new Board of Directors, and an Advisory Board. Some of the newly elected members were also on the previous committee. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected Executive Committee and wish them a very fruitful tenure. We are excited about the diverse talents and skills our new committee members have, and we are confident that their collective efforts will drive Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. to new heights.

Nepal Day Parade ~ 2023

The vibrant spirit of the Nepalese diaspora came to life on May 21, 2023, as they joyfully celebrated the Nepal Day Parade in Manhattan, New York City. The event was a remarkable testament to the Nepali community's strong ties to their roots and their eagerness to promote their culture. The event witnessed an impressive display of cultural diversity, with various ethnic groups of Nepal showcasing their distinct customs and traditions.
The Manhattan air was filled with the enchanting melodies of Nepali songs, and the rhythmic beats of traditional music reverberated through the city while dancers gracefully performed traditional Nepali dances, captivating the onlookers with their electrifying skill and grace. The parade was a spectacle of unity and pride, where the Nepalese community came together to share their traditions, dances, and festive spirit with fellow New Yorkers.
Tamu Pariwar New York, inc., as always, took part in this event with great enthusiasm and in large numbers showcasing our cultural Gurung music, dance, attire, etc. The event was a grand success.
Lhosar 2022

Lhosar is a traditional Gurung festival celebrated by the Gurung community to welcome the Gurung New Year. Lhosar is a time for family gatherings, feasting, dancing, and merrymaking. The Gurung people wear traditional dresses and jewelry and prepare special dishes such as Sel Roti, a fried sweet bread.
Tamu Pariwar New York, Inc. celebrates Lhosor every year with great enthusiasm. The most recent Lhosar was celebrated on December 25, 2022 to welcome the Year of the Cat and to bid farewell to the Year of the Tiger.
